Chiang Mai Guesthouses
Thailand Hotels
Chiang Mai offers a wide choice of hotels
and guesthouses for all budgets and all tastes – from the 1200 US$ a
night suite where Hillary Clinton stayed during her 1996 visit to Chiang Mai to
a basic room at a guest-house or dormitory for less than 100 Baht (~3 US$).
Thailand is knows for its excellence in the
hospitality industry and the five star hotels and resorts of Chiang Mai
and Northern Thailand are among the finest in the world.
Mid range hotels and upper-range guest-houses
provide excellent value for your money due to harsh competition which drives
price ever lower.
Many operators decorate their rooms Northern Thai
(Lanna) style which means plenty of wood carving and pleasant decoration.
Air conditioning is not necessity during the cold
season (Mid-November to Mid-February) and hardly in the rainy season, so save
the money and get a room with fan and make sure you it's possible to open the
window (the latter may be impossible in some air-con rooms). However, March and
April heat usually calls for an air-conditioning, and the rainy season might
have hot spells which is unpleasant combined with the high humidity.
As for location you can choose a modern hotel in
the heart of the city or a stunning resort in a tropical forest setting.
